Thomas Birnbaum founded NYC Realty Advisors LLC in 2004. A 37 year veteran of the commercial leasing business he
began in 1972 at Edward S. Gordon, Inc. and mentored at the side of this legendary broker until 1981 developing and implementing
strategies for leasing vacant office towers. Mr. Birnbaum also brokered lease transactions for tenants and owners, created
and maintained the firm’s market research department and was responsible for hiring and training brokerage personnel.
Mr.
Birnbaum’s areas of expertise are corporate tenant representation advising and negotiating on behalf of corporations,
institutions, professional organizations and not-for profits in the acquisition and disposition of leased and owned property.
He also advises and assists in the marketing of office space. Services include situation analysis, strategy development, and
transaction implementation.
In 1981 Mr. Birnbaum founded American Realty Advisors, Inc. continuing to provide brokerage
and consulting services in the office leasing field. He sold the firm in 1987 to the successor to Merrill Lynch Commercial
Services of New York, Inc. and was appointed Senior Vice President and Manager of the New York office of this publicly owned
international developer and also served as liason for the firm's 22 offices across America.
In 1990 Mr. Birnbaum
returned to the transactional side of the business rejoining Edward S. Gordon Company, Inc which had then evolved into Insignia
ESG (today CBRE). More recently Mr. Birnbaum served for five years as Managing Director at Colliers ABR, Inc.
Over
the span of his career, Mr. Birnbaum represented such notable clients as B. Altman, Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn,
Broadcort Capital, Carret & Company, LLC., Eastern Railroad Association, 500 Park Avenue Associates, Frette, Inc., Fuji
Bank, Ltd., Kidder Peabody, PepperCom, Incorporated, Frank Russell Trust Company, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Paul Hastings
Janofsky & Walker, Reebok International, Ltd., St. David’s School, Solow Management Corporation and Sony Corporation
of America.
Mr. Birnbaum has bought, sold, financed, leased and managed a variety of small properties in Connecticut
for his own account.
Mr. Birnbaum is married with one son.
